Mesothelioma has been a general term used for any kind of cancer occurring in the mesothelium. It would be the tissue surrounding your vital organs of the body. It would not be wrong to suggest that all forms of mesothelioma have been a result of exposure to asbestos. This toxic chemical could be found in several locations. However, there would be more than one type of this form of cancer.
Different kinds of mesothelioma cancers
The mesothelium tissue is found in several parts of the body. As a result, the cancer could develop in this tissue, which would be in several parts of the body. However, there would be four major kinds of mesothelioma cancers affecting your body. They have been recognised as pleural, peritoneal, pericardial and testicular. The names would refer to the area of the body where the cancer would affect.
Around three quarters of all mesothelioma cases have been diagnosed as pleural mesothelioma. This makes it the most common kind of disease. This kind of cancer would be concentrated in the tissues surrounding the lungs. It could also affect the line of the cavity in which the lungs have been located. Several patients suffering from pleural mesothelioma would notice symptoms, as fluid starts to build up between the lungs and wall of the chest cavity. This would make it relatively tough for the lungs to function in a proper manner. Common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma would be inclusive of difficulty in breathing, persistent cough and pain in the chest area.
The peritoneum would refer to the lining of the abdominal cavity. The cancer occurring in this tissue has been referred to as peritoneal mesothelioma. This kind of cancer would affect the tissues around the organs located in the abdomen. Peritoneal mesothelioma has been relatively common than other forms of mesothelioma cancers. It would account for roughly between ten and twenty percent of the entire number of reported mesothelioma cases. Few symptoms of this form of cancer would be inclusive of swelling or pain or in the abdomen, anaemia, bowel issues, blood clotting, breathing problems, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite and chest pains.
This is one of the rare forms of mesothelioma. The pericardial mesothelioma would affect the mesothelium surrounding the heart. The symptoms would be inclusive of heart palpitations, persistent cough, breathing problems, shortness of breath, and chest pain. It would be difficult to differentiate the symptoms from those of pleural mesothelioma.
Testicular would refer to the testicles. Therefore, this kind of mesothelioma would affect the tissue found in this part of the male anatomy. This least common form of the disease does not have great deal of information available on common treatments or prevalence statistics.
